1. To you what is a Growth Hacker?

This is someone who jumps from the bridge, and along the way builds an aeroplane 🙂 For me, Growth Hacker is a smart marketer who learnt how to code, or a developer who moved into the marketing/sales field, someone who sees opportunities and chase them, but in a smarter way thanks to his/her knowledge. Growth Hacker is someone who lives and breathes with one word in mind – “change”.

2. Why do you Growth Hack?

I guess it’s just in my DNA. I think you will find a lot of growth hackers who were born in late 70s/early 80s in Poland (where I am from) or ex-soviet countries. Back then, the reality for us was let’s say difficult and we just had to learn how to chase opportunities in a smarter way. But the moment I realized I do growth hacking (and the term was already coined by Sean Ellis & co.) was in my Drupal Agency. I was looking for a way to exist in the minds of potential customers from abroad. I wanted to work with clients all over the world. But the cost of campaigns was too high so I built some tools and In 2 weeks I had clients from the US, Canada, UK, Norway and Germany.
Growth Hacking is just much more effective than traditional marketing. That’s the only reason I am doing it 🙂

3. Are you currently Growth Hacking a company, project, app, or startup? If so give us a description and provide a link if you can.

The whole marketing in Colibri IO is based on growth hacking. When I saw the effects of growth hacking for my Drupal Agency, I started building up Colibri to help other small teams to win new customers faster and with lower budgets.

4. Describe your typical day, what it looks like and how do you make it productive?

It might be funny, but my typical day is ruled by my 3 year old son and the timing of meals and skype hangouts 🙂

Since December 2014 I live with my family in Malaysia. A lot has changed since then and I think I can say we have a typical digital-nomad-family life here :). We stopped collecting things and started collecting moments, focusing more on life experience and emotions. Since we’re working with our team remotely everything became much simpler too.

Our work time is divided into four parts:

Morning is the time for gym, breakfast and coding. With a fresh head and strong black coffee I can easily start with the most difficult tasks

Lunch/meetings we often have meetings either on skype, with the team or with marketers here in Penang.

In the afternoon I’m picking up my son from kindergarden and we go together to the beach or the pool.

After dinner, I sit down to and analyze a lot of metrics we measure and try to find all low-hanging fruits and get them the next day

5. What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as a Growth Hacker?

What’s really important to me is to sleep 10 hours minimum and regularly go to the gym. It helps me being constantly productively, not loosing focus and being able to work 6 days a week, 12 hours a day. OK, sometimes I’m working too much 🙂

6. What recent trend, marketing strategy, technique excites you the most right now?

It’s not the trend or strategy, but the market I see booming. SEA market that we are slowly taking part of is nothing but amazing. Here the world of marketing is quite different and it’s very exciting to help building it up.

7. As a individual, what is the one thing you do over and over and recommend everyone else do?(This could be life style habit, productivity, or some secret ninja tea made from a flower found only at the top of a mountain.)

That’s actually pretty simple. 🙂 Find one thing you love to do and instead of wondering where your next vacation is setup a life you don’t need to escape from.

8. What is one Growth Hacking strategy that has helped you grow your most important metrics? Please explain how.

The growth hacking idea is full of different activities that will lead you to a success. What works best for Colibri IO is a combination of SEO, content marketing and social media. To put it in plain english we find the demand, respond to it and find the influencers that can help out spreading the word.

9. What is one pain point you have in the digital space that you wish someone could fix?

Don’t have any at the moment, but if you found one please let me know and I will be happy to fix it for you. 🙂

10. What is one Growth Hacking secret that you’re willing to give away to our readers?

Go the extra mile. Do better than the others. It pays off in quadrillion ways. It might sound vague, but that’s what growth hacking is all about. GH is not about using all marketing, sales and PR techniques. It’s about doing one thing better than the others.

11. What are 3 of your favorite marketing software, technology, or tools?

My far best and favourite tools are:

Intercom.io – the best way to identify problems and do customer support

Buffer.com – still the easier way to republish your evergreen content

Colibri.io – a must-have tool for me to see the outcome of our content marketing, seo and social channels

12. What is the one book that you recommend our community should read and why?

The Psychology of Persuasion by Robert B. Cialdini

This book will help understand how people think. Why are they acting in a particular way. Will help you put yourself in your customer’s shoes. It is also very useful when you are creating buyer personas for your startup.

13. What inspires and motivates you on a personal level to be successful?

I love collecting beautiful moments in my life.

14. What people, or companies should up and coming Growth Hackers seek out and learn from? (include websites, blogs or Twitter profiles)

You can learn a lot from Twitter, Social Media Examiner, Google Trends, ProductHunt, Kissmetrics’ Blog and this video:

15. How can people connect with you? (Website Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, ext.)

My Twitter is full of articles you might be interested in reading in order to grow your startup: https://twitter.com/KarolPokojowczy

You can follow my crazy life on Instagram: https://instagram.com/carlospox/

I recently started publishing on Pulse too: https://www.linkedin.com/in/karolpokojowczyk

16. Where are you located? City + state (if in U.S.) or city + country (if not in the U.S.)

That’s a tough question 🙂 Currently I’m in Malaysia, Penang Island – Batu Ferringhi but just come back from Bali and will be in Vietnam in September and San Francisco next year. You can always catch me up online though. 🙂
